A$AP Rocky on ‘At.Long.Last.A$AP’ Track ‘Better Things’ Rita Ora Diss: ‘The Rita Thing Was Tasteless of Me’
A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, dropped his new album "At.Long.Last.A$AP" on May 26, causing a great deal of controversy with song lyrics about drug use, orgies and sex with Rita Ora. His lewd remarks about the U.K. pop star in the song "Better Things" surprised everyone, especially since no one had known the two hooked up or dated. Some fans speculated that the "L$D" rapper wrote the song's lyrics while using drugs and the part about Ora was a figment of his imagination.
Rocky revealed in a July 2 interview with The Guardian that the intimate encounter with Ora was real, and he stands by what he said.
A$AP Rocky targeted Ora in "Better Things" with these lyrics: "I swear that b*tch Rita Ora got a big mouth / Next time I see her might curse the b*tch out / Kicked the b*tch out once cause she b*tched out / Spit my kids out, j*zzed up all in her mouth and made the b*tch bounce."
"The Rita thing was tasteless of me," Rocky told The Guardian. "I've got to stand by it, because I did it. I said it."
In the interview, the "Everyday" rapper was baffled that people care about what he said: "Who gives a f*ck about who I'm f*cking? Nobody really cares. It's fun to hear, but who really gives a f*ck about who Rita Ora's f*cking?"
A$AP Rocky said that he shares personal details about his life because that's what people talk about.
He said he's frustrated the media chooses to focus on his sex life more than his music. When the reporter suggested that it is because he's now a celebrity, Rocky shot back that he is not a celebrity -- he's famous, and there is a difference.
"I just hope that people realize how much of an artist I am, and they realize there is no barrier between me and them. I am them," he said. "So for me I'm going to say the same sh*t [on my album] that I would say to them on a one-on-one conversation in confidence because I'm a man. Whatever I say in privacy, why can't I say that elsewhere?"
