New York Giants' defensive end Jason "JPP" Pierre-Paul could miss the team's camp and even the start of the regular NFL season because of his double-hand injury, which he sustained from an unfortunate fireworks accident.

This information was relayed by ESPN's Adam Shefter, an NFL insider, via a Twitter post.

The 2010 first round pick by the Giants was admitted in a hospital after getting injured while trying to light fireworks on Saturday, for the Fourth of July celebration, NFL.com reported, citing two sources who knew about the unlucky incident.

Pierre-Paul even posted a video showing himself in front of a van before the fireworks accident. Other people posted that they saw a U-Haul van full of fireworks. One even mentioned directly that it was JPP who rented the whole van himself for that day's event.

The good news is that the 26-year-old player's hand "will be intact" according to updates from the pass-rusher's medical experts who are also looking into possible complications, which the accident caused such as the likelihood of nerve damage, NFL.com added, this time, citing NFL insider Ian Rapoport's report.

These details are corroborated by ESPN's reporter, Dan Graciano, via a Twitter post stating, "I am told Pierre-Paul has some burns on one hand and they are checking his fingers for nerve damage but prognosis is not terrible."

However, on Sunday, a source told ESPN that the player injured not just one hand, but both of them, while in South Florida this weekend.

The site also mentioned that only one finger is being examined from nerve damage and that his palm on one hand also suffered burns, aside from his three fingers. Doctors reportedly believed that "there will be no permanent damage or disfigurement of his hands." Sources also told the sports site that JPP's situation is also not career-threatening.

With the current medical condition of JPP, there's a great chance he would miss the Giants' training camp and even the initial games of the regular season. These medical updates about the player, who was tagged by the New York team for $14.8 million this upcoming season, are eagerly being determined by the Giants.

Although the prognosis will surely affect the whole team this upcoming season, a Giants' spokesman said the team's main concern is JPP.

JPP delivered 12.5 sacks last season, proving that he is an important part of the team last year.
