Costa Rica and Jamaica will get things started in Group B of the Gold Cup.

Despite having to face the host nation in the group, there is little doubt that Costa Rica is among the favorites to win this group and potentially the trophy. Costa Rica is currently the 14th ranked team in the world according to FIFA's rankings; the second highest ranked team in the group is Jamaica at 65.

Costa Rica is not entering the tournament in top form however. After the penalty loss against Netherlands in the quarterfinals of the 2014 World Cup, the team went on a brief run of success with wins against Nicaragua, Guatemala, Oman, Uruguay and Korea Republic. During that span, the team also drew with Panama.

However, since its win over Uruguay (in a penalty shootout), the team has a putrid record of two draws and three losses. In that span the team has faced Paraguay, Panama, Colombia, Spain and Mexico, far better competition than the teams faced during its solid run of fate.

The losses came against Panama, Spain and Colombia, proving that this side is not as good as its World Cup performance suggested. Or maybe, the team's performance in Brazil was the peak for its current core and the descent has originated.

Whatever the case might be, this trend is undoubtedly worrisome ahead of the big tournament this summer.

Jamaica is coming off the Copa America where it lost three games by the score of 1-0. However, the team acquitted itself well, losing against Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina by putting up a fight and almost squeezing out one point in the 1-0 defeat at the hands of Paraguay.

Jamaica could surprise Costa Rica if it plays at its best and could threaten to steal away the group.

Prediction: A 0-0 draw.
