Andre Greipel leaned on a strong finish to win Stage 5 of the 2015 Tour De France on Wednesday, while fellow Germany native Tony Martin kept the yellow jersey.

Peter Sagan of Tinkoff-Saxo looked poise to win the stage, while Mark Cavendish of Etixx-Quick Step had a strong chance to score his first victory in the tour, but Greipel spoiled their respective bids.

Greipel launched a strong attack in the final 100 meters of the sprint and the trick worked as the Lotto-Soudal rider crossed the line first to win Stage 5 -- his second stage victory after also winning the second.

"It was an interesting sprint because none of the top sprinters had any of their lead-out men to lead the sprint for them in the final 300 meters," Greipel told reporters via the Le Tour 2015 official website. "You had to improvise a little bit. I looked for an opening and saw there was one on the left."

Sagan ended up second to Greipel, while Cavendish wound up third. Alexander Kristoff of Katusha and Edvald Boasson Hagen of Team MTN rounded up the top five. Below is the Top 10 finishers for Stage 5.

Meanwhile, the fifth stage of the 2015 Tour De France did not have dramatic effect on the general classification as Tony Martin remains the holder of the yellow jersey.

The Etixx-Quick Step rider is still 12 seconds ahead of Christopher Froome of Team Sky and 25 seconds ahead of Tejay Van Garderen of MBC Racing Team.
