Grammys 2014 Winners & Performances: Disney Debuts 'Maleficent' Trailer During Awards [WATCH HERE]
Disney has just debuted a new 90-second 'Maleficent' trailer that features Lana Del Rey's haunting cover of the song "Once Upon a Dream" during the 56th annual Grammy Awards.
The footage features Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie portraying the classic Disney wicked witch and Elle Fanning as Princess Aurora. "There is evil in this world, hatred, and revenge," says Maleficent to Aurora.
"You know the tale. Now find out the truth," says the trailer then brings up images of Maleficent during her visit to the castle during the birth of Princess Aurora. The trailer shows images based on the retelling of the 1959 animated film that will be told from the perspective of the film's villain.
The clip also shows Vivienne, Brad and Angelina's daughter who will make her film debut as the young Princess Aurora. To view the official trailer, click here.
The official synopsis of the film, according to ScreenCrush is as follows:
Maleficent' explores the untold story of Disney's most iconic villain from the classic "Sleeping Beauty" and the elements of her betrayal that ultimately turn her pure heart to stone. Driven by revenge and a fierce desire to protect the moors over which she presides, Maleficent cruelly places an irrevocable curse upon the human king's newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Aurora is caught in the middle of the seething conflict between the forest kingdom she has grown to love and the human kingdom that holds her legacy. Maleficent realizes that Aurora may hold the key to peace in the land and is forced to take drastic actions that will change both worlds forever.
According to Variety, the film "Maleficent" is produced by Joe Roth and directed by Robert Stromberg. The movie stars Angelina Jolie as well as Don Hahn, Palak Patel, Matt Smith and Sarah Bradshaw serving as executive producers.
Lana Del Ray's song is downloadable for free on Google Play for a limited time, until February 3. Maleficent is scheduled to hit theaters this May 30th 2014.
