Google Glass 2.0: The Next Google Glass Device Will be Targeted at Businesses
The Google Glass headset was not a big hit with the general public, but business users and health care providers found uses for it.
The next Google Glass device is likely going to be aimed at enterprise users instead of the general public, Digital Trends reports.
9to5 Google reports that the next Google Glass device will be called the Enterprise Edition (EE). This is the sequel to the Explorer Edition (XE) that stopped selling in January.
Since the Enterprise Edition is targeted at business users, individual users might not be able to purchase one.
Google wants the Google Glass to come back and they have been busy hiring staff to work on it. Company executives are reminding people that an updated product is in the works.
The changes for the next model are not expected to be significant but improvements will be made. The next Google Glass device is likely to have a bigger screen, an Intel Atom processor and an external battery pack.
After Google stopped selling the first Google Glass device, other companies have entered the smart eyewear market. Microsoft is pushing the larger Hololens device and Epson and Sony are trying to get involved in the race too.
Reports have already surfaced that show that Google has been approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to create a new smart eyewear device, iTech Post reports. The device could use rectangular glass instead of circular-shaped glass.
Even though the first Google Glass was killed off due to low demand, Google's chief executive Eric Schmidt says the device is still alive. There is no release date yet available, but it is expected that a new version of the Google Glass will debut before the year ends. It just might not be available to everyone.
