Blackberry Phones: Android Could be Used in Multiple Blackberry Devices this Year
Blackberry was once a popular smartphone, especially for business users. In fact, in 2010, Blackberry had a 43-percent share of the U.S. Market. Now, with Android and iOS devices owning the market, Blackberry has seen their market share decrease all the way to 1.5 percent, Android Headlines reports.
Now, Blackberry might be getting some customers back. There have been leaked images of at least two Blackberry models that will run the Android operating system. The Blackberry Passport and Venice are rumored devices coming from Blackberry that are expected to use Android instead of Blackberry's own operating system.
The Blackberry Venice and another model called Dallas were seen on the import/export site Zauba headed to India for testing. A report from Digitimes says Blackberry plans to roll out multiple Android devices before the end of the year. They also say that Blackberry will partner with Foxconn, Compal and Wistron. Blackberry has not confirmed or denied any claims that they will produce an Android phone.
Blackberry and Google have announced that they are trying to make Android devices for business or enterprise more secure.
"BlackBerry and Google are working closely together to set new standards in enterprise mobile security for organizations deploying Android devices. Android Lollipop delivers key enterprise functionality and addresses any previous enterprise security concerns. BES 12 supports Android Lollipop, allowing you to confidently deploy Android devices in your organization," Blackberry said.
One of the Android-powered Blackberry phones could offer the popular physical keyboard that Blackberry is known for in a sliver handset that would also have a touchscreen, PC Mag reports. This model is said to be the Venice, Engadget reports.
The Passport model of the Blackberry would likely use Android as its operating system but would ditch the physical keyboard.
An announcement could be coming soon from Blackberry now that they have partnered with Google.
