Disney aired on Sunday night its first same sex couple during a "Good Luck Charlie" episode.

During an interview with TV Guide last June 2013, Disney a spokesperson said, "This particular storyline was developed under the consultancy of child development experts and community advisors... Like all Disney Channel programming, it was developed to be relevant to kids and families around the world and to reflect themes of diversity and inclusiveness."

The episode was first announced last summer and featured two lesbian mothers, Cheryl and Susan, who drop off their preschool daughter Taylor for a play date with Charlie. Disney inserted human when Charlie's parents are confused about Taylor's mom before finding out they're a same-sex couple.

Upon the realization, Bob declares, "Taylor has two moms!" and his wife responses sarcastically, "Wow, nothing gets past you, Bob."

There were positive responses in twitter with user @katelyn_seller saying, "I love how in the Good Luck, Charlie episode, it's not out of the norm at all for Taylor to have 2 moms, while @4evrUnstoppable also chimed in, "I'm watching Good Luck Charlie w/my sister and there's a same sex couple on the show, GO DISNEY FOR INTRODUCING SOME DIVERSITY."

Former Disney star Miley Cyrus praised Disney for this move by tweeting, "I commend Disney for making this step into the light of this generation. They control...so much of what kids think! Life isn't bright sets & wardrobe & kids becoming superstars! This is INSPIRING.""

However, not everyone is pleased with this development. One Million Moms, famous for boycotting JCPenny after its affiliation with openly gay celebrity Ellen DeGeneres, criticized the episode. Upon first hearing of the planned episode, the group posted this article on their website:

"Just because something may be legal or because some are choosing a lifestyle doesn't make it morally correct. Disney should stick to entertaining instead of pushing an agenda...Conservative families need to urge Disney to exclude confusing topics that children are far too young to comprehend."
