It has been several years now since actor Denis Leary has graced the screens of FX with his previous hit show "Rescue Me" back in 2011. But now, the actor and comedian is making a return to the network with another gritty series FX is known for, "Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll," according to Deadline.

The title is a mouthful, but it is also very telling about what kind of character Leary will be playing in the upcoming series.

His character on "Rescue Me" was a fast-talking, take-no-BS kind of guy who also happened to be a seasoned firefighter in NYC back when the events of 9/11 unfolded. That character took on some grimy chops and was always battling with booze, one season being on the wagon and the next he would be a raging alcoholic.

Now, Leary's new character on "Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll," Johnny Rock, will be playing the washed-up version of a lead singer in a band. The band had its best run already, which never really reached a major studio recording, and now Rock can't quite seem to give up the lifestyle.

The titular name says it all. He has an addiction to all the perks his fame brought him, and now he is acting like a fast-talking ex-rocker who has a bit of an ego.

The series is the brainchild of Leary, who had the idea rolling around in his head since he left the network back in 2011. The difference being this is strictly a comedy show, which will only run 30 minutes per episode.

The show actually takes on a familial tone, which in some ways is what "Rescue Me" did also, besides its gritty content.

"Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll" will show Rock's only shot at a comeback, which will feature a new lead singer, his daughter, with him behind the scenes writing the music.

The freshman season debuts on FX on July 16 at 10 p.m. EDT.
