‘Orange is the New Black' Cast News: 'OITNB' Star Ruby Rose Explains Why She Didn't Have Gender Reassignment Surgery
During a recent interview with Access Hollywood, "Orange is the New Black" actress Ruby Rose revealed that she had been contemplating gender reassignment surgery since the thunder age of 5, MTV reports.
Rose also revealed that Oprah Winfrey inadvertently influenced her early decision to transition to male.
"I had this jar that I would pledge dollars... towards this surgery that I didn't really know a lot about," Rose said. "I think I'd seen a daytime documentary or something on Oprah and I was like, 'That's what I'm going to do.' And so I started saving from probably the age of five."
MTV reports that Rose came out as lesbian at the age of 12. Later on, during her teenage years, she realized that gender reassignment surgery was not something she wanted to go through with.
Instead, Rose opted to change her style and outward look to increase her confidence .
"When I got to 15, I kind of decided to get more into my body," Rose explained. "I shaved my head and my mom was just like, 'I don't know what's going on right now, but if you are happy, then do it.' And I started to change the way that I dressed and talked, and realized that I didn't want to transition, I just wanted to feel more comfortable in my own skin."
Since transforming her style, Rose has been compared to various celebrities including Angelina Jolie, Leonardo DiCaprio and Justin Bieber, MTV reports.
Though Rose is flattered by the comparisons, she explained that she finds it strange and doesn't feel like she looks like any of those celebrities.
"I have to say, it's so strange because I love Justin, I love Angelina, and I really love Leo, but none of those three people look the same," she said. "I would say I definitely dress the most like Justin. I would like to think it would be Angelina because I'm pretty obsessed with her."
