Joan Rivers' New York Penthouse Sells for $28M
The New York penthouse of the late television host, Joan Rivers, has finally been sold months after it was put on the market.
The former home of the "Fashion Police" host who died at age 81 while undergoing endoscopy, changed hands for $28 million, Los Angeles Times reported. The listing agent who handled the sale was Leighton Candler of Corcoran Group.
The 5,100-square-foot Manhattan triplex penthouse is located at a 19th century New York landmark, known for its distinct "original Gilded Age architectural details." The elegance of the pre-war era still resounds in the luxury apartment - its magnificent splendor is even fit to house the world's kings and queens, described the Times.
The home, which has a total of 11 rooms, features Louis XIV-inspired decor, tall glass panels and French doors.
Images of the Manhattan penthouse published on Architectural Digest show the home's notable interiors. The soaring 23-foot-tall ceilings over a grand and formal ballroom, exquisite columns, wood-paneling, golden accents on the walls and ceilings, crystal chandeliers, an attractive blue-sky ceiling, and fireplaces definitely depict luxury at its finest.
Aside from the interior accents, the penthouse's surroundings also contribute to its natural allure. The tri-level apartment offers great views of the Manhattan skyline and the famous city landmark, Central Park, which can be reached via a short walk from the place.
The magazine also noted that the Manhattan apartment comes with a guestroom that features two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen. The new owner will definitely enjoy spending time in the grand master bedroom suite, a dining room, a ballroom, a music room and a library or take a break in the terraces while overlooking the busy city of The Big Apple.
"This is a very private building, so having this boutique aspect is something that is incredibly unusual in New York," the listing agent told CNBC.
The funny host was survived by daughter-host, Melissa, who is also part of the "Fashion Police" TV program. But why did she choose to let go of the lavish home in New York?
"Melissa has no interest in living in New York. She's got a son in school in L.A. She's got 'Fashion Police' in L.A. She's got a life in L.A." a source, who is close friend of the Rivers' told New York Daily News.
