Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Tower’ Officially Set for Film
The dark side of Comic-Con 2015 in San Diego revealed to the world the long-awaited, highly anticipated film adaptation of Stephen King's long running saga, "The Dark Tower," according to Deadline.
The book series has long been talked about for a big-screen adaptation, but now, Deadline confirmed the first major steps in the process have come to fruition. Sony Pictures and Media Rights Capital officially secured a deal with director Nikolaj Arcel, who previously helmed the Oscar nominated "A Royal Affair."
Arcel was brought in after a long courting process by the studio and the project's producers to get the film off the ground. His filmmaking visions and legendary tactics are expected to bring the complexity and immortality of the King series to life on the big screen like no other. He is also the co-writer of the Swedish film adaptation of Stieg Larsson's runaway hit thriller, "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo."
There have been successful adaptations of King's novels in the past with directors like Frank Darabont, Stanley Kubrick, David Cronenberg and John Carpenter. This will be the first real attempt to bring "The Dark Tower" series to life on cinema.
The original series of books, which started with "The Gunslinger" back in 1982 and followed up with seven more installments, had eventually led King himself to consider the series his magnum opus.
The upcoming films are expected to follow the series of books in their chronological order with the first film being about "The Gunslinger." It established the crucial relationship between the story's Roland Deschain and Jake Chambers.
Fans of King will be delighted to know many characters from his 50-plus novels have made an appearance in this series of novels and will do so in the films.
