Fans of the popular comedy series "The Big Bang Theory" can expect to get the answers to some of their burning questions during Season 9 premiere in September.

As fans may recall, the Season 8 finale ended with a major cliffhanger as Sheldon and Amy's slow-moving relationship seem to come to a shocking end. After dating for years, Amy told Sheldon that she was fed up and frustrated with the lack of growth in their relationship and needed space. Devastated by the breakup, Sheldon began talking to the Gollum figurine on his desk and pulled out an engagement ring he planned to give Amy.

Although many fans were stunned to see the couple actually break up, it was just as surprising to discover that Sheldon was planning to take his awkward relationship with Amy to the next level. Fortunately for viewers, the first episode of the new season will confirm when Sheldon was planning to propose and when he purchased the engagement ring.

While speaking at the San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, showrunner Steve Molaro revealed that the season premiere will address the real story behind Sheldon's ring and whether or not it was really his intention to propose to his girlfriend, Business Insider reported.

When asked whether or not Amy's backstory will be explored in Season 9, writer Eric Kaplan said, "I'd love to know those things as well. We live these characters week to week. You may learn she had a great, great uncle who didn't play by the rules," reports Design and Trend.

It was also teased that viewers can also look forward to a nod to "Ghostbusters" in the new season now that "The Big Bang Theory" has received the right to air a clip from the 1980s film.

Season 9 of "The Big Bang Theory" will premiere on CBS on Sept. 21.
