Today the 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards were announced and HBO's medieval fantasy epic "Game of Thrones" reigned by receiving the most Emmy nods -- an impressive 24 nominations in total -- in the Outstanding Drama Series.

Fellow contenders that nabbed the second- and third-highest nominee slots include the limited series "American Horror: Freak Show," which received 19 nods and "Olive Kitteridge" with 13 nods.

This year, the award-winning Netflix hit series, "Orange Is the New Black" has been moved from the Comedy Series category to the Drama Series category where it will compete with HBO's "Game of Thrones," Netflix's "House of Cards," AMC's "Mad Men" and "Better Call Saul," Showtime's "Homeland" and PBS' "Downton Abbey." Talk about an intense line-up!

"Breaking Bad" fans have been able to get their fix with "Better Call Saul," which, as mentioned, is holding its own in a very competitive category of Outstanding Drama Series.

Now with "Breaking Bad" star Brian Cranston out of the running, many are hoping that "Mad Men's" beloved star John Hamm will finally take home the coveted award for Lead Actor in a drama.

Hamm, who has won a Golden Globe Award, is up against fellow contenders Bob Odenkirk from "Better Call Saul," Kyle Chandler from "Bloodline," Kevin Spacey from "House of Cards," Jeff Daniels from "The Newsroom" and Liev Schreiber from "Ray Donovan."

The fierce acting skills of "Empire" star Taraji P. Henson have been acknowledged, but her fellow "Empire" star Terrence Howard was unfortunately snubbed. Henson is the only major nominee from the past season's highly acclaimed new show and is an early favorite to win best actress in a drama, which would be a first for a black actress, The New York Daily News points out.

In addition to Henson, fellow contenders in the Best Actress in a Drama category include: Claire Danes from "Homeland," Robin Wright from "House of Cards," Viola Davis from "How to Get Away With Murder," Elisabeth Moss from "Mad Men" and Tatiana Maslany from "Orphan Black."

"If either Moss or Hamm wins, that would mark a first-ever acting statuette for 'Mad Men,' though the show itself won best drama four times," the NY Daily News adds.

Amy Schumer mania has swept the nation -- and now the Emmys!

The "Trainwreck" star has been nominated in the best-comedy actress category for "Inside Amy Schumer." Her fellow contenders include: last year's winner, Julia Louis-Dreyfus from "Veep," the iconic Lily Tomlin from "Grace and Frankie," Lisa Kudrow from "The Comeback," Amy Poehler from "Parks and Recreation" and Edie Falco from "Nurse Jackie."

Best actor in a comedy nominees include: Anthony Anderson from "Black-ish," Matt LeBlanc from "Episodes," Don Cheadle from "House of Lies," Louie C.K. from "Louie," William H. Macy from "Shameless," Will Forte from "The Last Man On Earth" and Jeffrey Tambor from "Transparent."

Lastly, best comedy nominees include: FX's "Louie," ABC's "Modern Family," NBC's "Parks and Recreation," HBO's "Veep" and "Silicon Valley," Amazon's "Transparent," and Netflix's "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt."

"Orange Is the New Black" star Uzo Aduba and "So You Think You Can Dance" British host Cat Deeley hosted the Emmy nominations.

"Brooklyn Nine Nine" star and "Saturday Night Live" alum, Andy Samberg will host the 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 20. Fox will broadcast them live from the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles.
