The science fiction thriller "Narcopolis" by director Justin Trefgarne will be distributed in the United States by IFC Midnight.

According to an article on Deadline, the film is predicated on a future where all drugs have been legalized.

The thriller is set in s a city where the drug war is essentially over, but a new war has emerged and it appears to be one fought by companies against the black market. The premise seems to elude to the erosion of capitalism once it legalizes drugs.

The thriller is headlined by a man named Frank Grieves (Elliot Cowan), who is a recovering addict himself. The themes present in the film are those of murder, drug addicts, and widespread panic as a new drug enters the market that seems to be killing people.

The tagline for the film is "The future is a fix." This plays off the fact that in the trailer, there is a man on television who seems to represent a company that manufactures and sells these drugs. He says over and over again their drugs are both legal and safe. The gigantic size of the company indicates that it has experienced astronomical wealth and therefore controls the market.

The theme of corruption in the film constantly swirls around Grieves' situations. In the beginning, he is called in to investigate a corpse that is unidentifiable. They use heat sensors on the scene to see if drugs had played a role in his death, but they find results that were both inconclusive and bothersome.

The film plays out in thrilling chapters that unfold as his investigation gets closer to the truth.

In the U.K., the film will be distributed by Altitude Film Distribution and in Canada by Mongrel Media.

There has been no word yet when it will be released in the U.S., but you can watch the thrilling trailer for it below.
