Vice President Joe Biden Says Facial Bruise Occurred While Playing With Dog
Vice President Joe Biden's pooch may be in the dog house.
Reps for the 72-year-old politician confirmed Biden was injured when he was recently rough-housing with his pet German shepherd, Champ. As a result, Biden was left with a dark bruise just below his lower lip, reports E! News.
Biden's bruise was seen during his appearance in the East Room at an event celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act on Monday, reports The New York Post. Although he did not speak at the event, he seemed to be in good spirits as she stood smiling alongside President Barack Obama.
Champ, who is occasionally spotted at public events at the Naval Observatory, has been a member of Biden family for years.
According to a 2010 Politico report, the purebred dog is "an early riser. He often encourages the vice president to take a walk before the sun even comes up."
Earlier this year, Biden suffered from the loss of his son, Beau, who died on May 30, at the age of 46 after suffering from terminal brain cancer. He left behind his wife and two young children.
"It is with broken hearts that Hallie, Hunter, Ashley, Jill and I announce the passing of our husband, brother and son, Beau, after he battled brain cancer with the same integrity, courage and strength he demonstrated every day of his life," said Vice President Biden in a statement, according to People.
In 2010, Beau suffered from a mild stroke, and he was first diagnosed with brain cancer in 2013.
To honor his memory, the Biden family created a new organization called the Beau Biden Foundation for the Protection of Children which "will stand up and speak out for children who are being abused," said organizers, NBC News reported.
