NYC Celebrity Jeweler Aron Aranbayev Killed in Hit-and-Run in Front of His Home
A renowned jeweler to the stars was laid to rest Tuesday after he was struck and killed in a hit-and-run in front of his home over the weekend.
Police believe a driver in a Dodge Magnum deliberately ran over Aron Aranbayev, 40, around 11:15 p.m. on Sunday night in Forest Hills, Queens. Investigators believe Aranbayev and the driver may have gotten into a verbal confrontation over a parking spot.
"He was being dropped off, and some guy was in a rush," Aranbayev's cousin, Israel Aranbuyov, said outside his funeral at the Jewish community center in Forest Hills Tuesday, according to NBC New York. "They got into a verbal argument and the guy ran into him."
Aranbayev died Monday at Jamaica Hospital after suffering from severe head trauma, police said, according to CBS New York.
Aranbayev is credited for accessorizing a number of high profile celebrities, including Sean "Diddy" Combs, Kevin Hart, Khloe Kardashian, Macklemore and Floyd Mayweather. His colleagues and friends also described the father of four as a family man and pillar in the community. His youngest child was born six months ago.
Mourners crowded the synagogue to say one last goodbye to Aranbayev on Tuesday, while his renowned store, Rafaello & Co. in Manhattan, remained closed for business. A sign was placed on the store to inform customers of the loss.
Daryl Dunn, who works next door to Aranbayev in the diamond district of midtown Manhattan, expressed his condolence.
"We're keeping the family in prayer and just looking forward to a better day," he said outside the funeral.
A neighbor named Alexander Balanevsky described the victim as a polite man.
"Always he say, 'Good morning,' to me," he said.
His cousin, Aranbuyov, said, "Hopefully they will find this guy, get him off the streets so he won't do this to anybody else."
Police are still looking for the driver of the Dodge.
