Windows 10 Release Date: Which Brand New Computers Will Include Windows 10?
Microsoft has been reminding consumers for months that Windows 10 is coming out July 29. However, not everyone will be able to get the Windows 10 upgrade on July 29, CNET reports.
Instead of a massive rollout of Windows 10 on July 29, Microsoft will slowly introduce the brand new operating system to different categories of consumers, starting with the Microsoft loyalists who enrolled in the Windows Insider Program.
If customers want to skip the upgrade process and buy a brand new computer with Windows 10 installed, they still may have to wait.
CNET contacted the major computer brands to ask them when their brand new computers would come with Windows 10 pre-installed. Their answers varied, and some of the companies were not certain.
Acer looks like they will be on schedule to offer some systems with Windows 10.
"We will have a number of new models shipping with Windows 10. They will be on sale on July 29 and will begin shipping to consumers within a week of that date," Acer said.
Asus was not as confident that their new models would ship with Windows 10.
"SKUs [specific models] with Windows 8.1 will continue to have Windows 8.1 ... models with Windows 10 will have a different SKU."
Dell says "select systems" equipped with Windows 10 will start shipping July 29.
HP will start shipping Windows 10 computers on July 28 for customers who have ordered them from HP.com. Customers wanting to pick up an HP computer with Windows 10 from a retail store will have to wait until Aug. 2.
Lenovo gave the most negative answer regarding their computers and Windows 10.
"Windows 10 will not be installed on systems in store on the 29th. You may be able to order that configuration online but it will not ship that day. Preloaded systems estimate is mid-August."
Samsung said their computers would not have Windows 10 pre-installed but reminded customers they will be ready for an upgrade to the new operating system.
Toshiba said "most" of their units will have Windows 10 pre-installed, but some retailers may not have these units.
The quotes and statements from these retailers updates an earlier story from Bloomberg that stated that some new computers would come with Windows 10 pre-installed.
