Man Breaks Into New Jersey Home, Lives Underneath Bed For Days
Police released details about a bizarre burglary involving a man who snuck into a New Jersey home and proceeded to live out of a spare bedroom in the house for as many as five days.
According to police in Spotswood, New Jersey, Jason Hubbard entered the Adamcewicz home on Ellenel Boulevard while the owner was taking out the trash in May, WABC reports. He then made his way to the daughter's vacant bedroom, where he hid under the bed for several days. He also used a nearby electrical outlet to charge his four cell phones.
Hubbard was discovered after the homeowner heard a noise and found the intruder hiding under his daughter's bed. The homeowner's 28-year-old son apprehended him until police arrived to the scene just before 7 p.m. on May 10. Hubbard was then arrested for criminal trespass.
"He was hiding upstairs underneath the bed, in my daughter's bedroom," resident Margaret Adamcewicz said. "He used to date my daughter five years ago. ... It didn't end well. ... He didn't say why he came back. He just picked our house to hide out in. He didn't have a home to live in."
Margaret added she had not "heard from him in five years." However, Margaret said, because she recognized him, "I wasn't scared, I was just angry."
According Margaret, Hubbard was just surviving on water during his time living in her home.
"I don't think he was eating," she said. "I think he just had water under the bed."
Hubbard was placed behind bars at the Middlesex County jail in lieu of $50,000 bail on charges of burglary, criminal trespass and theft of services for using an electric outlet, reports NBC News.
When asked if she had a message for Hubbard, Adamcewicz said, "To stay away from this house and never come back."
Although the incident occured in May, it was not made public until Tuesday night since Spotswood police release arrest records only twice a year.
