Chris Brown Forced to Remain in Philippines as $1 Million Dispute With Concert Promoter Plays Out
Chris Brown remains stuck in the Philippines and banned from leaving the country because of a lingering dispute about a canceled New Year's Eve concert performance.
According to Us Weekly, the 26-year-old "Loyal" singer pulled out of the scheduled Philippine Arena show just hours before he was slated to take the stage, but now concert promoters contend he still bagged the $1 million payment he was due even though he never showed up.
Brown was in the country this week, where all indications are his Tuesday night, packed-house performance at Manila's Mall of Asia Arena went off seamlessly. But by Wednesday, as he prepared to leave the country, Brown began to experience a little turbulence.
According to the Associated Press, a complaint from Maligaya Development Corp. and the Iglesia ni Cristo (Church of Christ) group, which owns the Arena, demanded answers about the money they allegedly paid out for a date Brown never appeared for.
Amid all the commotion, the Guardian reports an agitated Brown took to Instagram to post the since deleted message, "Can somebody please tell me what the f--k is going on? I don't know. I'm reading headline after headline. What the f--k? What the f--k is going on?"
AP later reported an Immigration Bureau spokesperson now claims Brown "had not applied for the emigration clearance he needs to leave Manila." As of Thursday morning, there had been no update as to when Brown might be able to board his private jet and leave the country.
Brown has a scheduled show in Hong Kong later this week and is also expected to be perform in Tel Aviv and Cyprus over the next several days.
It's been a tough few days for Brown, who earlier this month lost "money and other property" in an early morning home-invasion robbery of his California home -- TMZ reports police are still investigating.
