Make no mistake about it, "The X-Files" is not just coming back, it's bringing the biggest characters back with it. That being said, the Lone Gunmen are slated to make an appearance in the revival series, according to Entertainment Weekly.

This will certainly come as a shock to fans of the original series, considering the Gunmen were killed off in Season 9. But for those that have stayed true to the series and read the comic books, it was explained that they faked their deaths in the show, which was never revealed on-screen.

That being said, creator Chris Carter, who also helms the comic series, is likely to bring them back in the same way he did in the comic book. Carter is one of those people who have created a show about the unexplained and supernatural elements, so bringing back dead characters comes as no shock to the fans.

Actor Dean Haglund, who played Langly, confirmed on Twitter that indeed the trio was making a comeback.

Carter is also bringing back the "smoking man" back. He was killed off in the TV series as well.

"The Lone Gunmen" also got their own spinoff series on Fox, but it was short-lived due to weak and disappointing ratings.

"The X-Files" has also cast a few familiar names on the show. Robbie Amell from "The Flash" and Lauren Ambrose from "Six Feet Under" have been set for roles in the show.

Deadline describes the Lone Gunmen as kind of like the "A-Team" of conspiracy theorists whose geeky nature made them a valuable asset to Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) on the show. They had several recurring arcs in the series, appearing throughout the entire run of the show.

The group had notoriously been the comical relief in the scary show that fans always enjoyed to see. Their quirky and comical personas clashed like the "3 Stooges," but they were always productive and had genius plans that helped the two main characters.

"The X-Files" will debut again on Fox on Jan. 24 next year.
