Xbox One gamers can expect Xbox Live Gold "fairly soon" according to Microsoft Studios executive Phil Spencer, reports GameSpot.

Twitter user @XBX1GameInsider asked, "@XboxP3 Phil when can we expect games with gold for xbx1? summer, fall?" to which Spencer @XboxP3 responded, "@BungaHead @XBX1GameInsider Answer to this will be coming fairly soon."

Xbox Live Gold can be compared to rival Sony's PS Plus subscription-membership program wherein users of the PS3, PS4 and PS Vita get access to free games via the Instant Game Collection.

In Xbox Live Gold, Xbox 360 users and soon, Xbox One users are entitled to 2 free games in a month. For this month, free titles for the Xbox One include 'Dead Island' (February 1-15) and 'Toy Soldiers: Cold War' (February 16-28), notes GameSpot.

Games with Gold is only one of the perks of being an Xbox Live Gold member. According to the Xbox Live Gold webpage, the subscription-membership program also offers unrivaled multiplayer gaming, entertainment, and lots more.

"Experience unrivaled multiplayer for the hottest exclusive games, HD movies and TV shows, live events, music and sports. Along with premiere entertainment apps, Internet Explorer, and Skype on your TV. With Xbox Live Gold, you can stay connected with friends, family, and more than 48 million people around the world," reads the Xbox Live Gold webpage.

Xbox Live Gold was initially only available for Xbox 360 users but with the release of the company's next-gen console, Microsoft is confirmed to be working on extending the subscription-membership program towards Xbox One users.

"By popular demand, and based on the success of Games with Gold on Xbox 360, we are confirming that Xbox Live Gold members will get access to free games on Xbox One-details coming later in 2014," reads the Xbox Live Gold webpage.

A 12-month subscription to the program costs users $60 or $5 per month, adds the Xbox Live Gold webpage. It is not clear at this point whether Microsoft will be pricing the membership the same for Xbox One users in the future, considering that features like OneGuide, Game DVR and Upload, Skype and SmartMatch not available for the Xbox 360 will be made available for the Xbox One.
