Mexican rising superstar and former boxing champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez could face World Boxing Council middleweight title holder Miguel Cotto at Mandalay Bay on Nov. 21.

Negotiations between Golden Promotions and Roc Nation Sports are nearing completion, however, the camps are still talking about venues, Penagaricano told ESPN Deportes.

"So everything is on track... November 21. We have discussed that it could take place in both New York and Las Vegas. We still have the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas as an option, but equally we have another venue. What it is no longer considered is the MGM Grand, but we could also make it at the Mandalay Bay, a location where Oscar fought Tito and a huge opportunity for the rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico. But there is still nothing definite. Ourselves, Golden Boy Promotions and Roc Nation Sports - we are focused on maximizing everything in this negotiation, " Penagaricano said, as quoted by Boxing Scene.

In June, a few weeks after Cotto defeated Geale at the Barclays Center via a 4th round TKO, his adviser, Gaby Penagaricano, told El Vocero that their camp would like the fight to be staged in New York, where Cotto has a strong following, or in Las Vegas, which is a neutral ground for both Alvarez and Cotto.

"We are also more inclined with New York and Las Vegas. Texas, not so much, but it is not ruled out," the adviser said, as quoted by another article of Boxing Scene.

"Canelo," on the other hand, prefers the fight to happen in Texas so his fans can witness his possible return to championship status.

Ive been told this and I believe it to be true, Canelo is not a fan of the MGM Grand. He wants Texas. But it takes 2 to tango #boxing

Although the Cotto-Canelo match negotiations have not reached full circle, Golovkin's fight against Canadian boxer and current International Boxing Federation middleweight champion David Lemieux is already set on October 17, at Madison Garden in New York.

Tom Loeffler, managing director of K2 Promotions, is confident that the Golovkin vs. Lemieux match will be a battle worthy of boxing fan's support.

"The two biggest punchers in the middleweight division - and let me clarify, it'll be at 160 pounds - so it'll be a true middleweight championship fight but I think the fans are going to be the winners in this one, " Loeffler declared in another report by Boxing Scene.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman told Boxing Scene in May that whoever wins between Canelo and Cotto should face Gennady Golovkin next.
