Even as they mourned, the family of Bobbi Kristina Brown took solace in the knowledge that "she is finally at peace in the arms of God."

The 22-year-old daughter of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown died at a Georgia hospice on Sunday. Bobbi Kristina never regained consciousness after she was found face down in the bathtub of the Roswell area home she shared with boyfriend Nick Gordon nearly six months ago.

After making the decision to move her to hospice care, family members also struggled with the heart-wrenching decision to remove Bobbi Kristina from the life-preserving medications she had received throughout much of her hospitalization.

"We want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months," the family said in a statement.

According to Radar Online, from the moment she was rushed to a hospital emergency room on January 31, Bobbi Kristina was deemed brain-dead and placed on a ventilator. She was moved to the Peachtree Christian Hospice facility in Duluth, Georgia several weeks ago.

Bobbi Kristina's death comes almost exactly three years after her mother Whitney Houston was also found comatose in the bathtub of the Beverly Hills hotel where she was staying. The 48-year-old star crooner was in town to take part in that year's Grammy Award festivities.

Within a 12 hour span, Bobbi Kristina was twice hospitalized following her mother's death. Many fellow celebrities expressed grave concerns for her amid widespread reports that she was struggling with a drug addiction, which may have started when she was just 17-years-old.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Gordon now faces a $40 million law suit filed by the executor of Bobbi Kristina's estate, alleging that he physically abused her and stole money from her while they were together.

In a new book, "Whitney & Kristina," author Ian Halperin suggested Bobbi Kristina encountered many of her problems even before her mother's passing.

According to the New York Daily News, the book notes Bobbi Kristina was admitted to a psychiatric hospital before her 15th birthday after trying to slash her own wrists and stab her mother. She was later placed in a drug rehab facility before her 18th birthday.

Even as she lay in a coma over the last six months, family members openly feuded over her care and the estimated $20 million estate left to her by her mother.

Later, NBC affiliate 11Alive reported Bobby Brown filed suit seeking to take control of his daughter's estate. Whitney Houston had previously gained legal custody of her daughter after her split with Bobby. After Whitney attained custody, she formed a strong friendship with her daughter.

In a 2012 interview with talk show host Oprah Winfrey, Bobbi Kristina reflected, "She's always with me, I can always feel her. I can still sit there and I can still laugh with her... I can still talk to her."
