OnePlus 2: Latest News For Smartphone Launching Today
The time has finally arrived for the OnePlus 2. Monday, the highly anticipated smartphone from OnePlus will be introduced to the public, according to TechRadar.
After months of teasing from OnePlus, the OnePlus 2 will launch Monday. Owners of the original phone from OnePlus, the OnePlus One might even be able to watch the launch event in virtual reality, if they were able to grab a free Cardboard headset before the company ran out.
The OnePlus 2 is set to be released in an invite-only system. However, unlike the OnePlus One's invite system, it will be much easier to receive an invitation, making it much easier to buy the OnePlus 2.
Leaked images show the OnePlus 2 is a super-thin smartphone with a metal back, a fingerprint sensor and a repositioned camera.
The screen on the OnePlus 2 will not change in size, but it will get way more resolution than the OnePlus One. The 5.5-inch screen will display a resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 pixels on a Quad-HD screen. That beats the 5.5-inch display on the OnePlus One that displayed a 1080p resolution.
Several sources are revealing that the OnePlus 2 will be equipped with a 16 megapixel (MP) rear-facing camera and a 5 MP front-facing camera. Sketches obtained by Business Insider have shown an 8 MP front-facing camera, which would mean higher quality self portraits.
The battery will increase in size on the OnePlus 2. The OnePlus One had a 3,100 mAh battery, while the OnePlus 2 will have a 3,300 mAh battery, according to a recent "Ask Me Anything" on Reddit with the OnePlus team. The bigger battery is expected to last 10 percent longer than the previous battery.
Perhaps the biggest addition to the OnePlus 2 is the addition of a fingerprint sensor. This sensor will be found on the back of the device below the camera and will support Android Pay. OnePlus claims that their fingerprint sensor will unlock the OnePlus 2 twice as fast as any iPhone.
The OnePlus 2 is expected to cost at least $400, but that would make it cheaper than the unsubsidized price for almost all of the most popular flagship phones currently on the market, including the Samsung Galaxy S6, the HTC One M9, the Sony Xperia Z3+ and the LG G4.
