Fans may remember a character, simply named Morales, from season one of "The Walking Dead." He was a family man, who happened to never die in the series -- at least not as far as audiences know.

According to Comic Book, Morales departed from the main series group when they decided to try going to the CDC in the final episodes of the first season. He was against going to the CDC, not because it was a bad idea, but because he wanted instead to return his own family, a wife and two kids, to their kin in Birmingham. It was a long shot he would find his family alive, but he wanted to try.

So fans last saw him parting ways with the group on the hilltop just before they went to the CDC in downtown Atlanta. That was nearly five years ago in the show's run.

Flash forward to a few months ago, and a promotional image from AMC popped up with Morales's picture on it, simply reading: "NOT DEAD." On a literal level, all that tells fans is that the character never died, but it does not necessarily mean Morales will be rejoining the show.

Still, some fan theories supposed that Morales may be appearing in the new companion series for the show, "Fear The Walking Dead." But given the relatively short timeline and the quick pacing of the episodes, the character's return in that venue may seem unlikely. However, there have been some deviations in the show, away from the original source material in the comic book series, so with that in mind, Morales could indeed make another appearance on the show.

Morales was always seen as a man of family values and empathy for the people he bunkered down with in season one. After such a long time away, his return could be a bittersweet reunion for longtime group members like Rick, Daryl, Carl and Carol. But Morales could also shed a few tears with the group when he learns of comrades lost along the way, including Lori, Shane, Andrea and Sophia.

Fans of the show can catch up on episodes from the first season on the AMC website or on Netflix.
