A year after Vice President Joe Biden called LaGuardia Airport "a third world country," a $4 billion dollar makeover has been announced for the aging airport.

According to Yahoo, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Biden announced on Monday, July 27, that LaGuardia Airport will be getting a $4 billion makeover that will take about four-to-five years to complete after its approval in 2016. Cuomo, who is excited about the impending makeover, said, "We are transforming LaGuardia into a globally renowned, 21st century airport that is worthy of the city and state of New York."

Some specific improvements to look forward to include a completely new Terminal B, better public transportation to and around the airport, more room for planes to take off, a bigger parking garage and a larger concession space. Also, all four terminals will finally be under one roof, which is a big plus for travelers.

Of the $4 billion bill, Cuomo said about half of the money represents private funding. Delta Airlines is also reportedly a partner on the new terminal.

Many applauded the makeover plan, including Democratic New York State Sen. Jose Peralta, who commented, "New York City is in dire need of a high quality airport."

Peralta went on to say, "I applaud Gov. Cuomo on this long overdue project to finally bring LaGuardia Airport into the 21st century. It is in my hope that construction to transform the airport takes off as soon as possible. The investment in our airport will bring thousands of jobs to our hardworking families, will boost tourism and increase economic activity. This is a win-win situation for everyone."

According to The New York Times, the overhaul of the airport is expected to be completed in the year 2021.

LaGuardia Airport is currently considered to be the worst airport in America and is rated the 10th worst airport in the world.
