Following the release of undercover sting videos that purportedly show medical workers from Planned Parenthood discussing the sale of aborted fetal tissue, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal announced that he has canceled a contract to fund the women's health group in his state.

The pro-choice nonprofit has been under fire after a right-wing anti-abortion group released videos that allegedly show Planned Parenthood doctors talking about selling fetal body parts after abortions.

Planned Parenthood claims that the videos show their representatives engaging in the legal practice of collecting fetal tissue to be donated for medical research with a patient's consent. The group also says the workers in the heavily edited videos were discussing reimbursement for the costs incurred for donating the fetal tissue.

Nonetheless, a group of GOP senators introduced legislation to strip the women's group of its federal funding. However, their bill fell short of the 60 votes it needed to pass through the Senate on Monday, reports The Washington Post.

Gov. Jindal stated that he moved to cut the group's state funding through Medicaid "because Planned Parenthood does not represent the values of the State of Louisiana in regards to respecting human life," according to a released statement.

The Republican governor went on to accuse Planned Parenthood of engaging "in illegal partial birth abortion procedures," which "leaves body parts intact so that they can later be sold on the open market."

The statement also explains that under Louisiana's contract with the reproductive rights organization, "either party can choose to cancel the contract at will after providing written notice."

The Jindal administration added that the cancellation of this contract would "not jeopardize those services in any way as Planned Parenthood is just one of many providers in the Baton Rouge and New Orleans areas."

However, Planned Parenthood Louisiana State Director Melissa Flournoy argues the state would be "taking away health care services for the 2.7 million women, men and young people who rely on Planned Parenthood health centers each year for basic health care," according to NOLA.com. "Where will the women and men in Louisiana turn to for these vital services if Planned Parenthood is not an option?"

Planned Parenthood also notes that its clinics do not provide abortions in Louisiana. Instead, it only offers family planning services, cervical exams and gynecology services to women in Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

Planned Parenthood has 30 days to file for an appeal against the contract cancellation.
