There has been a long, drawn-out court battle going on over the rights for the classic "Dungeons & Dragons" game that has already been fictionalized on cinema in the past. According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has secured the rights to make the film, and planning is underway for its production.

The rights to the film's sequels have been lingering on in court over the past 10 months. Toy company Hasbro has been at odds with production company Sweetpea Entertainment. Both had claimed they owned the rights to a sequel for the film.

But in the end it was Warner Bros. that announced it was victorious with an arrangement. The deal was made, and now the film is readying itself for production.

"We are so excited about bringing the world of 'Dungeons & Dragons' to life on the big screen," said Greg Silverman, who is the WB Pictures' Creative Development and Worldwide Production Chief.

"This is far and away the most well-known brand in fantasy, which is the genre that drives the most passionate film followings. 'D&D' has endless creative possibilities, giving our filmmakers immense opportunities to delight and thrill both fans and moviegoers new to the property."

All parties involved in the lawsuit have backed out of it, and the plug has officially been pulled on the litigation. The agreement has been made to satisfy everyone involved with the project.

Lawyers from Hasbro also made a statement on the successful avoidance of litigation.

"This settlement accomplished our overarching goal of unifying all 'Dungeons & Dragons' rights under Hasbro's control, paving the way to make a blockbuster film."

Property rights to the "D&D" franchise are a hot commodity these days following the success of HBO's immensely popular "Game of Thrones" and other sci-fi and fantasy shows on television.

It is unclear if the upcoming project will be a sequel film or a reboot of the film franchise.
