The New York Knicks are not done wheeling and dealing, as reports revealed they are among teams interested in acquiring free-agent guard Norris Cole.

Sam Amico of Fox Sports revealed that the Knicks, along with the Philadelphia 76ers, are taking a close look at Cole, who is listed among the best available players on the sneaker market.

Cole, who will be playing in his fifth season in the league this year, is a restricted free agent, which means the New Orleans Pelicans have the right to match any offer to the former Cleveland State standout to keep him.

The 26-year-old guard spent his first full three seasons in the league with the Miami Heat before he was traded to the Pelicans midway through the 2014-15 NBA season.

During his first 47 games with the Heat last season, Cole averaged 6.3 points on 38.6 percent shooting, which improved to 9.9 points on 44.4 percent shooting in 28 games with the Pelicans.

The Knicks are looking to improve their backcourt, which is currently composed of veteran playmaker Jose Calderon, Arron Afflalo, Langston Galloway and rookie Jerian Grant.

However, the Pelicans will likely match any offer for Cole. It is highly likely they are just testing the market value of the four-year veteran. They only have three guards at this point -- Jrue Holiday, Tyreke Evans and Eric Gordon.

J.R. Smith Wants Major Role Next Season

Meanwhile, J.R. Smith is still unsigned after opting out of the final year of his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Smith walked away from his $6.4 million salary next season, thinking he might get a better deal this summer. However, the decision seemed to have backfired because he has yet to get a new deal from the Cavaliers.

When asked about his situation, Smith said that he is still waiting for the perfect deal and perfect opportunity. The 29-year-old guard said he wants to play for a team where he can make a difference.

Smith, who averaged 12.7 points on top of 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists after he was traded to the Cavaliers last season, said that he wants to start, but it still depends on the team, and he also knows he might not get that role if he returns to Cleveland next season.

"I would love to be a starter, but it depends on the situation and what team I'm on," Smith told Pacific Daily News. "Cleveland is in a situation where they don't really need me to start. I can come off the bench and bring the energy and stuff like that."
