LG is providing a blast from the past for its next smartphone. The LG Wine Smart is a smartphone, but it looks just like a classic flip phone from the early 2000s.

The flip phone and smartphone hybrid was first announced in Korea with the name the LG Gentle, Tech Radar reportsNow, the phone is leaving LG's home country and hitting the worldwide markets as the LG Wine Smart.

At first glance, the LG Wine Smart looks like a basic flip phone with few capabilities besides calling and texting. The LG Wine Smart is more than just a flip phone though, it is a flip phone with smartphone capabilities.

The screen on the LG Wine Smart is small, just 3.2 inches, but it is actually a touchscreen. Additionally, it will only display a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels. With such a small screen, users will probably want to use the external alphanumeric keypad to type and perform other functions.

"Our goal with LG Wine Smart was to create a smartphone that fans of flip phones could embrace," said Chris Yie, vice president and head of marketing communications LG Mobile Communications, in a statement. "Consumers shouldn't have to miss out on the smartphone revolution because they prefer a particular phone design over another."

Even though its a flip phone, the LG Wine Smart actually runs the latest version of Android, version 5.1.1. It is equipped with a 1.1 GHz quad-core processor, 1 GB of RAM and just 4 GB of internal storage.

Although it has Android 5.1.1, the small screen, low amount of storage and slow processor will keep most users from downloading many apps for the Wine Smart.

LG is trying to keep every smartphone buyer happy with the Wine Smart. According to data from research firm TrendForce, LG is the fifth-largest smartphone maker in the world. LG reports that their devices are growing in popularity in North America with sales up 36 percent year-over-year, according to CNET.
