Star Wars: Battlefront News, Features and Release Date: Fly the Millennium Falcon
Star Wars: Battlefront showed off its Fighter Squadron mode Tuesday at Gamescom 2015, pitting up to 20 pilots against one other in an outer space battle. The game is highly anticipated and is expected to be released Nov. 17 in North America, according to Tech Radar.
The 20-player Fighter Squadron mode at Gamescom showed a fight near the planet of Sullust. There were Imperial Shuttles, Rebel fighters, X-Wings, TIE fighters, A-Wings, and TIE Interceptors. Then the Millennium Falcon appeared, which is sure to excite many Star Wars fans.
The good news for Star Wars: Battlefront players is that the Millennium Falcon will be one of the aircraft that can be selected for battle. The multiplayer mode will feature up to 20 human fighters as well as computer characters all fighting on one map, CNET reports.
The bad news for Star Wars: Battlefront players is that the game will mostly be online and there is not much of a single player mode. If players do not have an Xbox Live Gold or Playstation Plus account, they will not be able to do much in the game besides some missions. PC players will be able to play for free without a subscription.
Xbox One players will have early access to Star Wars: Battlefront through the EA Access program. EA has confirmed that they will have Star Wars: Battlefront on EA Access but did not say how far in advance they would put the game out for players. Typically, games are made available about a week early to EA Access members, meaning it could be available by Nov. 13.
Players will be able to choose from a variety of characters in the game. Choose the traditional hero Luke Skywalker or go to the Dark Side with Darth Vader. Boba Fett has been confirmed. Other characters have yet to be announced.
The online multiplayer mode players are accustomed to will be slightly different. Instead of 64 players frantically attacking each other, the amount of fighters has been capped at 40. Producers for Battlefront believe this is a better number to keep things less crowded.
More news is expected in the coming months from Star Wars: Battlefront, including more confirmed playable characters.
