The series House of Cards stars Kevin Spacey as a corrupt congressman who is busy trying to scheme his way into the White House. Robin Wright plays the congressman's wife. The second season is set to become available on Netflix starting this Valentine's day, Feb. 14, when all thirteen episodes of the show will become available at once.

"Even before the second season becomes available to viewers, producers of the web-streaming series 'House of Cards' have completed a deal with Netflix for a third season of 13 episodes," the New York Times reported this Tuesday.

"The drama, which put Netflix on the map as a distributor of original programming with its critical praise and multiple award nominations, has never depended on accumulating audiences -- mainly because Netflix has never offered information about how many people actually watch its shows."

Spacey and the rest of the cast are slated to return for the third season as well as the main creative team behind the show. Ted Sarandos has said he believes the show could extend for several more seasons.

Fans of the show can try watching the original television show and compare it to their favorite Netflix political thriller. One reviewer for KCET says: "In spite of the hoopla surrounding the series, it's the original 1990 BBC production starring Ian Richardson that handily trumps the 2013 American version. I invite you to tune to KCET and Link TV on Sunday, February 9 for a four-episode marathon of the first season of BBC's original 'House of Cards,' starting at 7 p.m."

Kate Mara, older sister to Rooney Mara, looks to be the breakout star of the show this season as aggressively ambitious political reporter Zoe Barnes. "It's a really amazing role to play," she said. "It's just the most challenging experience in the best way for an actor, and that's always what I want."
