Samsung Smartphones: Unpacked Event to Introduce New Smartphones With Large Screens
Samsung will use its Unpacked event to introduce new smartphones with large screens. At the event, the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ are both expected to be showcased to the public, CNET reports.
The event will be held Thursday, Aug. 13, at the Lincoln Center in New York. Beginning at 11 a.m. Eastern, this will be Samsung's second Unpacked event this year.
Samsung has been struggling over the past couple of years as competitors have lured customers away with their new smartphones. Samsung has noticed that consumers are preferring large-sized smartphones, or phablets and continue to release smartphones with bigger screens.
The Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ both have large screens and are expected to be popular devices for Samsung.
The Galaxy S6 Edge+ is an update to the Galaxy S6 Edge. The Galaxy S6 Edge is a unique smartphone with curved edges. The Galaxy S6 Edge+ will keep the same design as the Galaxy S6 Edge with the curved edges, but it will increase the screen size to 5.7 inches.
The Galaxy Note 5 will be an update to the Galaxy Note 4. It will have improved internal components, a faster processor and a 5.7-inch screen, Trusted Reviews reports.
It took a while for smartphone users to embrace the large screen devices. Samsung introduced the 5.3-inch Galaxy Note way back in 2011 and it was criticized for being so large. Samsung stuck with the Galaxy Note though, and by the time the Galaxy Note 3 was set to be released, customers anxiously waited for it.
Apple finally introduced large screen smartphones in 2014 with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and Samsung is seeing their market share decrease due to competitors like Apple.
To keep customers interested in their devices, Samsung plans to cut prices on their upcoming smartphones. The Galaxy S6 Edge+ is expected to have a cheaper starting price tag than the Galaxy S6 Edge.
