Kim Kardashian 'Selfish' Book a Flop, Nielsen BookScan Reports
Kim Kardashian's book "Selfish" did not sell as much as expected even after all of her promotion.
Reps for Nielsen BookScan say the naked selfie book has sold only 32,000 copies despite Kardashian having more than 40 million followers on Instagram, according to Radar Online.
The book has also been a complete flop online, making only 2.5 stars after more than 600 customer reviews.
Executive director of publicity at Rizzoli, Pam Sommers, however, told Us Weekly the sales are much higher than Bookscan reported.
"The Bookscan number of 30K floating around is not inaccurate, but it represents a very small segment of our sales overall, which are very strong in non-bookstore specialty retailers, and international sales, neither of which report to Bookscan," Sommers said.
"The book is, in fact, a significant success story as a benchmark of the phenomenon of self-portrait in the digital age."
Sommers said "Selfish" is in its fourth printing with a total of 125,000 sales for trade, domestic and international. The rep also said the publishing company has switched from an Asian printer to an American printer to "shorten the delivery to meet robust market demand of the book."
"I couldn't think of what to get Kanye [for Valentine's Day], and so I was like, 'All guys love it when a girl sends them sexy pics,'" Kardashian said on an episode of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians."
"So I had [my assistant] Stephanie get a Polaroid, and we were taking photos around the entire house ... making this cool book, and it ended up turning out so cool, we came up with this idea to do a selfie book."
Speaking of sexy photos, Kardashian recently caught Kanye West looking at sexy pictures of his ex-girlfriend Amber Rose on Kim's Instagram.
"Kim found Kanye looking at [it] and went ballistic," a source told Closer. "It's really damaged her confidence. He told her she was being ridiculous."
Kanye dated Rose for two years and split after he allegedly cheated on her with Kardashian.
