Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger have brought their collective talents together to bring HBO viewers another outstanding series about the rise of subgenres of rock music in the '70s with "Vinyl," according to Deadline.

The series will star Bobby Cannavale as a remorseless president of a record label in the '70s, when various music genres began surfacing. Among these are punk, disco and hip-hop, which all would eventually go on to establish critical cult followings.

The series mainly focuses on Richie Finestra (Cannavale), whose status as the president of the record label makes him privy to all the inside dealings of the industry and what it took to make hits out of the music that was emerging.

In the trailer for the series, Finestra says that he makes no apologies for his life, though he is seen throughout the clip doing drugs and partying hard with all his young protégés, courting them before they are signed to the label.

Although the smooth talking businessman in the music industry is clearly displayed as ruthless and aggressive, his character is described as one who is trying to save his company, all while trying to avert paths of destruction for the people that get in his way.

The series is being made by two seasoned veterans of the industry, who have all the first hand knowledge necessary to make it true to life, a common theme in most original shows on HBO.

The show has been filled with all-star talent, which includes Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano, Ato Essandoh, Max Casella, P.J. Byrne, J.C. MacKenzie, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, Juno Temple, Jack Quaid, James Jagger and Paul Ben-Victor.
