Police in St. Petersburg, Russia have arrested a 68-year-old woman in connection with at least 11 murders that they know of. According to CNN, Tamara Samsonova, who has been dubbed by the media as the "Granny Ripper," was arrested on July 28 after video camera footage showed the aging woman disposing of her latest victim.

The security camera video footage, which police found and cited for the investigation, showed the old woman carrying garbage bags out of her apartment building where she lived and disposing of them. Police say those garbage bags had the dismembered parts of one of her victims in them.

Samsonova has been described as a pensioner and was temporarily living with another pensioner, Valentina Ulanova, 79. Authorities say it was Ulanova's body that the video footage showed Samsonova disposing of.

Samsonova was her caretaker at the time and has already been in court to face her crimes. She was seen blowing kisses to the media and happily cheered when the judge told her she would be held in custody awaiting trial.

She was interviewed by reporters from her cell in Russia and she gave them some disturbing details.

"I'm haunted by a maniac upstairs who forced me to kill," Samsonova said. "I have nowhere else to live. I am a very old person, and I put the whole matter to rest deliberately. I have thought 77 times about it and then decided that I must be in prison. I will die there and the state will probably bury me."

Although her mental state has not been evaluated at this time, Samsonova did keep a diary that lead police to believe that she was motivated to the slayings by cannibalism and dealings with the occult.

Her former husband went missing about 10 years ago and people that formerly lived in her apartment building have also vanished.

Russian police are investigating all missing persons and trying to link Samsonova to their disappearances. There are 11 victims she is suspected of killing, but police also think more may surface as the investigation continues.

The Sun reports that Samsonova may have feasted on the victims' lungs and limbs, comparing her to the fictional character Hannibal Lecter in the Thomas Harris novel series.
