Chicago Blackhawks star forward Patrick Kane has retained a lawyer as Buffalo police continue to probe "an incident" that allegedly took place at his offseason home last weekend.

While sparse on all other details, attorney Paul Cambria confirmed to the Associated Press on Saturday that he is now representing Kane. Police hinted they are awaiting the return of forensic evidence before determining if any criminal charges might be filed.

Cambria previously served as Kane's attorney in a 2009 case where he pleaded guilty to a noncriminal charge of disorderly conduct after being accused of assaulting a Buffalo cab driver over 20 cents.

As for the current case, Hamburg Police Chief Gregory Wickett also declined any of the specifics of the case, only acknowledging that police are still gathering information.

Meanwhile, the Buffalo News is reporting the investigation centers on an alleged sexual assault and the woman involved has already undergone treatment where a rape kit was administered.

Already the probe is forcing Kane to reel in his typically carefree personality. The high-scoring forward had been scheduled to spend this weekend hosting the Hawks' third Stanley Cup in six years and celebrating with fans in his Buffalo hometown. Reports are now he will privately spend the day admiring the trophy with only family members.

Rumors are Kane was also planning to bring the Cup to his favorite pizza place in his old neighborhood in south Buffalo and hold a celebration at a downtown bar. The 26-year-old, eight-year veteran wears No. 88 and picked Saturday to host the Cup because it is the eighth day of the eighth month.

According to ESPN, Kane signed an eight-year $84 million extension with the Hawks last summer.
