Twitter will start displaying much more content from NFL games, including highlights and news thanks to a new two-year deal signed by the two companies Monday, CNET reports.

Twitter and the NFL have been working together since 2013, but this deal will help the NFL display "significantly more" content to fans on Twitter.

Fans will be able to see game highlights, custom game recaps, breaking news and analysis, and archival video, the two companies said.

"There is a massive amount of NFL-related conversation our fans, teams and players are having on the platform. Providing the Twitter audience with engaging and authentic NFL content will magnify their social experience throughout the year," Vishal Shah, NFL's vice president of media strategy and business development, said in a statement.

The official start to the NFL preseason begins Thursday. That is also when Twitter users will start seeing the additional NFL content on their timelines.

Twitter wants to be a mainstream venue for users to read content, and with more NFL posts, Twitter could see some increased business. Twitter sees about 316 million visitors on its site every month, which is much fewer than the 1.5 billion who visit Facebook per month.

Twitter wants advertisers to use their site to promote their brands and advertisers want a diverse audience viewing their ads. Twitter has tried to clean up their site by removing abusive messages, but it also wants the site to be easier to use and inviting to everyone who visits.

NFL football is quite possibly the most popular sport in the United States and Twitter users love seeing its content. According to Glenn Brown, head of Twitter's Amplify video advertising program, Twitter users can't get enough NFL content.

"Over the past two years, NFL content on Twitter has seen best-in-class user engagement rates, and the expanded partnership will bolster the fan experience on the platform," Brown said.
