The buildup, unveiling, and subsequent release of the 2015 Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge has barely passed into our rear-view and leaks and rumors are already swirling around the next iteration from Samsung, presumably called the Samsung Galaxy S7 (and Edge?).

This week, a document leaked from Samsung giving early details on the Galaxy S7, codenamed "Jungfrau" in what seems to be an homage to the wife of the famous founder of analytical psychology for some reason.

In any case, the document was leaked onto Weibo by KJuma, who PhoneArena called a "well-versed industry insider." The document itself seems to be a technical report on Samsung's expected Android M update schedule for the next-generation Galaxy S device.

While it's no surprise that a premium Android smartphone expected to be released in 2016 would be running the still-unnamed "Android M" operating system, closer inspection reveals some tantalizing details and clues to what's inside, along with a hint about the Samsung Galaxy S7's release date.

For one, despite shunning Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, it looks like Samsung will be going back to that company for at least some models of the Samsung Galaxy S7.

In the doc, Jungfrau is listed as the "hero" device, with "Add [MSM8996]" noted on the same line under a heading "[M] Upgrade Plan." MSM8996 is the device codename for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820. Another model of Galaxy S7 is rumored to run on a new Samsung-made Exynos system on a chip.

On top of that, PhoneArena noted that Jungfrau might see a faster development cycle, since the Android M update work is already purportedly beginning for the Galaxy S7 before even the last quarter of 2015.

That could mean that Samsung is planning on an earlier-than-usual unveiling and release of the Galaxy S7, which would be quite congruent with the idea that Samsung is willing to adjust their development cycle after Galaxy S6's poor performance in the traditional late spring release date window this year. As we previously reported, Samsung similarly set the unveiling event for the expected Samsung Galaxy Note 5 ahead by about a month.
