One Direction's Harry Styles Challenges The Beatles, 'We're Bigger than The Beatles, Fame-Wise'
Now that they are getting incredibly successful, One Direction's Harry Styles reportedly has claimed that his band is more famous than the 1960s classic rock legend, The Beatles, during his recent interview.
After watching the film of The Beatles' arriving at John F. Kennedy Airport for their first ever U.S. tour back in 1964, the "Best Song Ever" singer said that his band is very similar to Liverpool's Fab Four.
"We all sat and watched the film of The Beatles arriving in America. And, to be honest, that really was like us," said Styles. "Stepping off the plane, the girls, the madness, it was exactly the same as when we got there -- just 50 years earlier."
However, the 20-year-old singer quickly realized that he might have made a little mistake in his statement. "But none of us think we're in the same league as them music-wise. We'd be total fools if we did," he added. "Fame-wise it's probably even bigger, but we don't stand anywhere near them in terms of music."
One Direction achieved worldwide success and built an international fan base, "One Directioners," after finishing in third place on the 2010 reality television music competition series, The X Factor (U.K.). Their most recent album, Midnight Memories, saw the British boyband become the first to enter the U.S. Billboard 200 chart at No. 1 with their first three consecutive albums.
FYI, The Beatles sold more than 170 million albums in the U.S., which means that One Direction still has a long way to go.
