The character of John Constantine is coming to CW's "Arrow" next season and original star, Matt Ryan, will be playing the role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series "Constantine" ran on NBC last season and completed its 13-episode series in February before being canceled by the network.

What's especially unique about this situation is that John Constantine is a DC Comics character, and he has roots in the universe. Although he was immortalized on the small screen by Ryan on NBC, his character is being revived with him at the helm on a new network.

This signals a push for the DC Cinematic Universe on The CW, and although this situation is not unheard of, it is incredibly rare for characters played by the same actors to cross networks.

"Arrow" executive producer Marc Guggenheim released a statement about the exciting episodic event.

"We are thrilled to have Matt Ryan reprise the role of John Constantine on an upcoming episode of 'Arrow.' Matt is an incredibly talented actor and his portrayal of this beloved character was always something we admired," Guggenheim's statement read.

"The introduction of magic and mysticism on the show this season has provided a truly organic opportunity for us to bring John Constantine to 'Arrow' and the CW's DC universe. It will be a well-deserved tip of the hat to all the 'Constantine' fans who were so incredibly supportive of that series."

"Constantine" fans were quite disappointed with the show's cancellation and they took to social media to campaign for it to be revived on another network or streaming platform. Even "Arrow" star Stephen Amell offered to guest star on the show should it be revived on another platform.

The cross-network love for each other's characters was not enough to put the show back on the air and the series remained defunct. But the character still lives on, as confirmed by Matt Ryan on his Twitter account.
