Jason Voorhees is suiting up again and this time, he is bringing his machete to television.

According to Deadline, The CW is bringing "Friday the 13th" to series on its broadcast network.

Although die-hard fans would love to see this, there may be a few out there that are wary. This is due in part to the 1987 "Friday the 13th" series that did not feature Voorhees, nor anything inherent to the classic slasher movies. It was instead an episodic series that feature two people who inherit an antique store and must track down and recover cursed furniture.

But Deadline reports that this new series is going to be a true Voorhees series, taking place in the fictional Crystal Lake.

The report suggests that the series will centre around a detective whose brother went missing some time ago and his disappearance is somehow connected to the notorious serial killer Jason Voorhees.

In the show, it is believed by the characters in the story that Jason has long been dead.

Horror website Bloody Disgusting reports that these characters are forced to deal with the return of Jason. All the while, the detective still searching for his missing brother will also have to deal with the monstrous killer.

The series has been described as a more reality based show that shows Jason as less of a superhuman monster and more human, with average strength like that of a normal man.

Deadline indicates the series follows a successful run of 12 movies featuring the masked killer, including the "Freddy vs Jason" spinoff and the remake film from 2009.

CW president Mark Pedowitz spoke about the project at the TCA event on Tuesday.

"I'm a big believer in titles and franchises," Pedowitz told the crowd at TCA Tuesday. "It makes them break out of the pack in some ways."
