Hyundai Unveils Luxury Car Design With the 'Vision G' Coupe Concept
In a bid to join the market for upscale vehicles, Korean car manufacturer Hyundai has recently unveiled a luxury coupe concept for its planned future lineup of high-end cars.
The carmaker unveiled the HCD-16 Vision G Coupe Concept at a small gathering in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The concept design is part of Hyundai's exhibit at the annual Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegenace event in California.
The coupe concept is called HCD-16 because it was the 16th concept design to have come from the Hyundai California Design center with collaboration from different Hyundai centers globally.
Although the vehicle speaks sleek and elegance all over, the people at Hyundai wanted it to be a bit understated and not too flashy.
The carmaker wanted the Vision G to be reflective of "a DNA that balances design and performance with the idea that you don't need to be over the top in terms of glitz and stereotypical luxury cues," Hyundai-Kia design chief Peter Schreyer told Auto Blog.
Unlike other cars that were designed to catch the attention of the audience around it, the Vision G coupe was made and styled with the owner in mind. Its design is of a high beltline, long hood and cabin that resembles a "slingshot."
The elegance continues in the interior with copper trims and wood-backed headrests, noted Car and Driver.
Aside from the body and design, Hyundai did not skimp on the engine as the HCD-16 Vision G boasts a 5.0-L Tau V8 engine. This arms the luxury car with 420 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 383 pound-feet of torque at 5,000 rpm.
Comparing the Vision G with the Genesis Coupe can not be helped but Hyundai made sure that the engine in the concept car will have a "flatter torque curve" and "increased compression ratio" for a better driving experience.
The luxury coupe might soon see itself marketed under the "Genesis" name in the future. U.S. design team chief Chris Chapman hinted on the Vision G's future in Hyundai.
"There are definitely plans of products that are going to evolve and take the Genesis name, the Genesis marque, and the Genesis brand in the future," he told Car and Driver. "We have these two [Genesis] products already, and we're ticking this idea of extending our bookshelves within the premium range."
The HCD-16 Vision G coupe concept will be part of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance event, which will begin on August 16 at the Pebble Beach Golf Links in California.
