Miley Cyrus has taken to her Twitter to post the three covers of German Vogue, shot by famed photographer Mario Testino, that will drop this month. And if she invokes the memories of certain blonde bombshells of years gone by... that was sort of the point!

According to Time Magazine, some of the photos were racy, and invoked equal parts Madonna and Marilyn Monroe (for the record, Miley did Marilyn MUCH better than Lindsay Lohan did...). The cover, of course, kept all the important parts covered (either by Miley's hands or some barely-there clothes), but within the magazine, the "Wrecking Ball" singer is completely topless!

This isn't the first time she's gone nude for a magazine, according to The Independent -- not long ago, Miley posed nude for the cover of W Magazine, so this is just the latest in a series of nude shoots for the star that is clearly looking to break out of her "teen idol" shell. With this "Blonde Angel" series for German Vogue, however, this is the first time that Cyrus has graced a Vogue cover. Could an American Vogue cover be on the horizon? (Maybe if Anna Wintour is feeling charitable, and is willing to overlook Miley's twerk session on the VMA's last year... one can only hope!)

Further along those same lines, the same site speculates that Madonna would probably appreciate the tribute to her, given that she & Miley performed together at a recent MTV Unplugged performance not too long ago. And Miley isn't the only "blonde angel" featured in this issue of German Vogue: Sky Ferreira, Debbie Harry of Blondie (respect!), and supermodel Anja Rubik are also featured in the issue.

This is nothing if not a strategic move for the pop star -- and besides, if you're going to have topless photos taken, better to have them taken by Mario Testino (who, interestingly enough, also photographed Madonna several times) than some random GWC (industry-talk for "Guy With Camera," or low-level photographer).
