iPad Mini 4 Features: Split Screen App Display Might Come to Next iPad Mini
Apple's next iPad Mini could offer split screen display of apps, similar to what is already planned in the iPad Air 2, CNET reports.
This feature is built into the upcoming iOS 9 and will allow iPad users to run two apps at the same time in a side-by-side manner.
Apple has already confirmed that the split screen app operation is coming to the iPad Air 2 when they showed off the feature at their Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. Apple said that this feature was only going to work with the current iPad Air 2 since it has the more powerful A8X processor.
It looks like the split-screen display of apps is coming to the iPad Mini 4 too. A resource file was found that is related to the next Safari browser and it hints that the iPad Mini 4 is also getting the feature too, 9to5Mac reports.
The resource file is from Apple's upcoming operating system OS X El Capitan and its Safari 9 browser. It lists that there will be support for split-screen app- viewing on the iPad Mini 4.
Viewing more than one app at a time is a useful feature for multitaskers. This is a feature that is already available on Windows 10 tablets.
With a large 9.7-inch screen, split-screen apps will work especially well on the iPad Air 2. The iPad Mini 4 will only have a 7.9-inch screen, so trying to run two apps at once might not look as nice on the tablet as it does on the iPad Air 2. Apple might just be testing out the feature to see if it is possible on the iPad Mini 4.
An even bigger iPad, likely called the iPad Pro, with a 12.9-inch screen is also rumored to be coming in the near future. Split-screen view on a large screen like that would definitely look nice.
Apple has an upcoming event planned for Sept. 9. It will introduce new iPhones and iPads. Apple will likely demonstrate how the new iPads work with iOS 9 and split-screen app operation will be highlighted.
