An idea that has been floating around for quite some time now is finally getting the strength it needs to come to fruition. A sequel to the "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" film franchise is in the works, and original star Alex Winter has weighed in on the project, according to The Next Web.

Winter is expected to direct and produce the film with returning co-star Keanu Reeves. The two originally played the titular roles, and the two films, which includes the sequel "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey," have gone on to become a pop-culture phenomenon.

The films featured the comic journeys the duo took through a time machine that doubled as a phone booth. For those kids who do not know what a phone booth is, keep reading.

The films came out during a time period when cell phones were only emerging and were not considered affordable yet to the general public.

The phone booth Bill and Ted traveled in took them through time so they could learn about history and bring back characters for a school project to pass their class.

The duo were destined for rock fame, but they also had a greater destiny. They would eventually bring peace and harmony to the planet and end world hunger through their influence as rock legends.

"The fun thing about them [Bill and Ted] is that they're ageless. You play them in terms of who they are spiritually," Winter told The Next Web. "Their mannerism and physicality are not tied to age. We played them like 9-year-old kids. They still have that quality. The comic potential of that becomes even better as it becomes more discordant. It will be funnier because they're older."

"Be excellent to each other," as spoken by Winter in the 1989 teen comedy. Those are the words that a generation of teen fans would recite for years after the film was released, and they are destined to make a comeback in the new film.
