Aaron Hernandez Convicted News Update: Former NFL Star's Home May Be Tough Sell
Aaron Hernandez's sprawling North Attleboro, Massachusetts estate might be a hard sell for realtors looking to unload it at the request of the now jailed former NFL star.
"You're looking at a million-dollar home, so it's going to appeal to a certain buyer anyhow," Chris Rapacioli, a real estate agent at Coldwell Banker in nearby Sharon, told the Boston Herald. "There is going to be people who want to buy it simply because of the fact that a New England Patriot owned it and because of all the excitement around that. But then I think it will also deter other buyers ... because there will be the fear of fans camping outside the property and things to that effect."
The 25-year-old former New England Patriots tight end was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole earlier this year after being found guilty of the June 2013 murder of former associate Odin Lloyd. He purchased the home in 2012 for $1.3 million.
The Colonial-style, 7,100-square-foot mansion sits on Ronald C. Meyer Drive in the enviable subdivision known as Westwood Estates. The property has five bedrooms and baths and a three-car garage on a nearly half-acre lot. The home also features an open floor plan, complete with a two-story family room with a balcony, a gourmet kitchen and a movie theater.
"It's definitely an elite community," said Rapacioli. "It's a very hot market right now."
Hernandez was granted the okay to sell by a Bristol Superior Court judge after he and Ursula Ward, Lloyd's mother, filed a joint motion requesting the action. Proceeds from the home and Hernandez's Hummer SUV will be held by the court for distribution. Ward, on behalf of Lloyd's estate, has an attachment on the house up to a value of $5 million.
Hernandez also faces trial as the alleged trigger-man in the 2010 drive-by slaying of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado outside a downtown Boston nightclub. Their estates also have $5 million attachments on the home.
