iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus Release Date, Rumors, Specs: Powerful A9 Processor Will Be Fast, Beats Samsung in Some Tests
The processor that will be used in the upcoming iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus is expected to be 20 to 30 percent faster than the processor used in the iPhone 6.
The A9 is the processor that the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus will use, Tech Radar reports. Not only will it make major improvements from the A8, it will also perform better than Samsung's current Exynos 7420 processor used in the Galaxy S6, according to one Geekbench 3 benchmark test.
The A9 processor performs especially well in the single core benchmark test, achieving a score of 2090, according to GforGames. The multi-core score benchmark test for the A9 processor is 3569. That beats the old A8 processor used in the iPhone 6, which had scores of 1611 for the single core test and 2892 for the mult-core test.
A brand new processor called the A9X will be used in the upcoming iPad Air 3. It scored a 2109 for the single core test and 5101 for the multi-core test. This beats out the A8X which scored an 1808 for the single core test and a 4526 for the multi-core test. The A8X processor was used in the iPad Air 2.
The single core test number for the A9 beats out Samsung's Exynos 7420 processor. The Exynos 7420 processor is used in the recently released Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge+. The impressive single core number of 2090 for the A9 easily beats out the Exynos 7420 score of 1486. The Exynos 7420 processor does have the better multi-core results, earning a score of 5048, compared to the A9's multi-core score of 3569.
Upcoming chips will eventually surpass the A9 and the Exynos 7420. Samsung's Exynos M1 scores an impressive 7497 in the multi-core test. This is exciting for Samsung fans because it could be the next processor used in the probable Galaxy S7.
According to Forbes, the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, which will use the A9 processor, will go on sale Sept. 18.
For now, the A9 looks like it will be an extremely powerful processor, but even more powerful processors are on the horizon from Samsung, Huawei and LG.
