Wednesday’s chance to make big money playing Powerball is here.

The grand prize is currently at $80 million, with a cash value of $51.2 million. Last Saturday’s winning numbers were 3, 13, 17, 42, 52 and 24. There were 394,398 regular winners and $7,300,915 in non-jackpot money was won.

There are actually nine ways to play Powerball. Although the odds will likely change in October, currently there is a 1 in 175,223,510.00 chance in winning the grand prize and a 1 in 5,153,632.65 chance in winning $1,000,000.

The odds of winning are slim, but people do win. The main thing a Powerball player has to do, outside of checking the numbers, is hold on to the ticket.

As reported in NJ.com, a Powerball ticket worth $1 million was purchased in the Garden State at a gas station in Mercer County. The ticket matched five numbers but not the Powerball.

A second $1 million ticket was sold in Iowa, and the fellow who won that has come forward.

Brian Delagardelle, a public works director for the city of Gilbertville, knew that he had won big but at first did not comprehend how much his prize actually was. "I knew it was a fairly good amount, but I thought it was $100,000 at first," he said, as reported by KCCI News.

Delegardelle explained that he used his smartphone to check the Powerball results on Sunday morning and then called up his girlfriend, Michele Smith, to make sure his information was correct.

Smith recalls the excitement of that morning, saying, "At 6 a.m. my phone rings and it's him and of course my first thing is, 'What’s wrong?'"

"He said, 'I need you to get on the computer right away. Call up the lottery, see what the numbers are, see what happens if you get five numbers right.'"

And she did, and now the couple is enjoying a very happy week.
